I would like to extend warm holiday greetings to all of our forum members and wish you all a very happy, healthy and successful 2010.
It is with gratitude that I assume the responsibilities of President of the KFA-NY. I am honored to have been elected by my peers and am fortunate to have in place a Board of Directors that are as committed to strengthening our club as I am. Our board offers a diversity of backgrounds and talents that is helpful to provide oversight of the daily operations of the club and represent the membership’s interests.
Before we paddle forward towards our busy year ahead, I would like to acknowledge the immense contributions of our outgoing Vice President, Anthony Weiss, his hard work and dedication will be missed and hard to fill. I would also like to thank Dennis Wise for his unlimited energy during the past year as a board member.
Now as we paddle forward, we have lots of work to do; beginning in the New Year a list of projects will be posted in the member’s only section I am hopeful that several members will volunteer to assist the board with these projects so we can have a successful 2010 year.
The board recently announced that the 2010 annual dues will remain at $35.00 for current members if you renew by April 1, 2010 and new membership will remain at $50.00 dollars. I urge everyone to re-new there membership and if you’re a lurker on our forum I personally invite you to “take the plunge” and join us. Foremost the KFA-NY is a fishing club however your membership supports so much more. In 2008 the KFA-NY was instrumental at re-establishing kayak launching at Jamaica Bay and we were at the forefront of regaining fishing access at Shoreham Beach. The KFA-NY is also an active member of the NY Coalition for recreational fishing.
Once again I am honored to be this year’s President of one of the most prestigious fishing clubs in the metro NY area. I look forward to your comments and suggestions, and welcome you to share them with me.
Have a wonderful holiday and a joyous New Year.
Richard Anemone

I am a NYS tax payer, and I pay my local, state and town taxes for services. The government collects my tax money to provide needed services. Currently, the system is not set up as a “piece meal plan” where we get to choose the service we want to pay for and the government puts the money toward that service. (Don’t get me started on cable television and un-bundling channels that is another discussion).
We get “taxed” twice when we pay a toll to enter a park or use certain roads since we already paid taxes for the highway department and parks department.
The article discusses how some parks make a profit; the government is not a business and is not supposed to turn a profit. If a park makes a profit then that money should be returned to the taxpayers or the admission fees should be reduced for that park.
Using the current governor’s thinking to solve the budget problems then the sanitation department and highway departments should also close since they do not turn a profit and the Governor should make an executive order that the NYS police department issue more summonses to turn a profit. Hopefully, both these scenarios won’t occur.
I do believe our current Governor was put into a difficult situation and one he probably did not expect to be in. However, the NYS parks were not closed during the great depression and now at a time when many taxpayers cannot afford family vacations we will be relying more on local parks for our recreation. If anything, NYS should be cleaning up the parks and adding more services to the parks to attract more people into them. The more people that use our parks the more the local business will flourish increasing tax revenues to the state and increasing local jobs.
NYS Government should partner up with local groups and organizations for special beautification projects and revitalization projects in our parks, discuss leasing parts of state owned land in parks to groups and organizations for sports and recreation activities, privatize certain events and activities in parks with business that specialize in that event or activity and who would be able to run the event or activity more efficiently.

Membership Drive 2010
The KAYAK FISHING ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK (KFA-NY) began in 2007 as a small group of kayak fishermen. In January 2009 the KFA-NY became a 501(c)7 non-profit organization. As per our bylaws the objects and purpose of the KFA-NY is: - to foster and promote kayak fishing, - to promote safety and wearing the correct gear while kayak fishing, - to advance the sport of kayak fishing and the principles of conservation with an emphasis on the striped bass.
Today, the KFA-NY has over 90 club members and over 250 members registered on our forum.
The KFA-NY holds 12 meetings annually. Six are held indoors during the winter months and six are fishing outings at various locations. Our indoor meetings are free and open to the public. At these meetings we share our knowledge to become better kayak fisherman, have guest presenters, and offer hands-on activities. Annually, we also offer our expertise to the public through various community outreach events. Our six fishing outing are for members only.
Our website forum, has created an information network for all kayak fishermen, from beginner to advanced, exchange ideas, techniques and skills of the sport. We are committed to passing on these skills and traditions of the sport to the next generation of kayak fishers. This forum is open to the public once you register as a user. There is also a member’s only area which contains specific information related to kayak fishing, as well as club member discounts.
So why join/ renew with the Kayak Fishing Association of NY? Well if you have interest in learning more about the sport of kayak fishing, enjoy meeting people who have a passion for fishing and/or like to experience fishing in new places this is the club for you.
